After surveying over 3,000 participants across the U.S., data analyst firm, Revenue Management Solutions, determined the most popular quick-service restaurants (QSRs) for chicken sandwiches, nuggets and bone-in chicken.
For the chicken sandwich, 25% of participants chose Chick-fil-A as their top choice with Popeyes in second with 20% and KFC coming in at third with 12%.
For chicken nuggets, Chick-fil-A and Popeyes are in the No. 1 and 2 spots again with 28% and 23% respectively. But McDonald’s is in third place with 18%.
KFC stands out as the top choice for bone-in chicken at 36% with Popeyes and El Pollo Loco at the second and third spot with 26% and 17% respectively.
Breaking down the data
According to Revenue Management Solutions, the majority of participants – 43% – responded that they order from QSRs one to two times per week, and their decisions are primarily based on price and the product itself.
For chicken sandwiches, 3 in 5 base their decision on the product rather than price. And for bone-in chicken, 1 in 2 respondents do the same. But when it comes to chicken nuggets, price is the main deciding factor.
“Participants showed limited price sensitivity towards the leading two brands across all three products,” according to the survey. “However, a 20% price increase could lead them to consider alternative options.”
