NOVUS researchers sharing research

Latest findings on broiler hatchability will be unveiled at upcoming PSA annual meeting.

NOVUS researchers are set to share their latest findings on broiler hatchability, gut health and sustainability at the upcoming Poultry Science Association annual meeting. The event, scheduled for July 15-18, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, will feature a symposium and the presentation of four abstracts.

Alfred Blanch, NOVUS global poultry solutions executive manager, emphasized the significance of addressing hatchability challenges and complications from avian influenza/H5N1. The event will also cover insights on raw feedstuffs and trace minerals.

Symposium on Broiler Breeder Hatchability

Title: Achieving Reproductive Performance and Quality Chicks with Modern Broiler Breeders

Date and Time: Wednesday, July 17, 9:00 a.m. EST

Location: Grand Ballroom A

Gabriela Cardoso, Ph.D., NOVUS poultry solution manager-NORAM, highlighted the U.S. poultry industry's struggle with breeder production hatchability rates below 82%. The symposium will bring together experts to address this issue and work towards improving chick hatch rates.

Presenters:

  • Henk Enting, Ph.D., Cargill
  • Rick van Emous, Ph.D., Wageningen University & Research
  • Felipe Kroetz Neto, Ph.D., Aviagen
  • Estella Leentfaar, Hendrix Genetics
  • Hugo Romero, Ph.D., NOVUS

Abstract Presentations

NOVUS will present research covering various aspects of poultry production:

  1. Use of Different Sources of Zinc and Combinations with Copper and Manganese in Broiler Chickens

    • Presenter: David Torres
    • Focus: Impact on broiler performance, intestinal quality, and footpad health when inorganic zinc sulfates are replaced by lower levels of organic zinc and combinations of organic zinc, copper, and manganese (MINTREX® Bis-Chelated Trace Minerals).
  2. Effect of Replacing Inorganic Zn, Cu, and Mn by Chelated Sources with Methionine-Hydroxy-Analogue on Performance and Mineral Excretion in Broilers

    • Presenter: Jorge Prada
    • Focus: Evaluates the replacement of high levels of inorganic copper with lower amounts of methionine hydroxy analogue chelates (MINTREX® Cu Bis-Chelated Trace Mineral) to address antibiotic-resistant bacteria and environmental contamination concerns.
  3. Evaluation of Trypsin Inhibitor Contents in Different Types of Soybean Meal

    • Presenters: Frances Yan, Ph.D., and Mike Schulz
    • Focus: Differences in trypsin inhibitor content among various types of soybean meal (full-fat, expeller, solvent extract) and commonalities in antinutritional factors from different regions.
  4. A Review of Mineral Recommendations in Broiler Breeders

    • Presenter: Hugo Romero-Sanchez, Ph.D.
    • Focus: Advancements in trace mineral transporters and their role in broiler breeder nutrition, along with dietary supplementation recommendations reflecting practical conditions in different regions.

These presentations demonstrate NOVUS' commitment to research and collaboration with customers to address industry challenges and improve poultry production outcomes.
