USPOULTRY holds seminar

Professionals from the feed industry convened in Nashville, Tenn., for the USPOULTRY 2024 Feed Mill Management Seminar, delving into crucial topics such as biosecurity, critical system, and regulatory updates.

Dr. Leasea Butler, director of feed milling, nutrition, and transport at Cobb-Vantress, led a comprehensive discussion on biosecurity, emphasizing the importance of redefining cleanliness within facilities to mitigate the risk of pathogens and contamination.

Jason Norris, senior director of engineering at Wayne-Sanderson Farms, provided insights into boiler operations, highlighting essential factors for daily operations and emphasizing the significance of regular inspections to identify and address operational issues.

Richard Obermeyer, director of feed production at Aviagen, shared strategies for reducing energy and electrical usage in feed mills to cut operating costs, suggesting areas such as electric bill analysis and efficiency improvements in compressed air systems and steam lines.

Additionally, the American Feed Industry Association, in collaboration with USPOULTRY and Feedstuffs, recognized Mountaire Farms' Scotland County feed mill in Maxton, N.C., as the 2023 Integrator Feed Facility of the Year. The facility's dedication to employee safety, community engagement and production of high-quality poultry feed were highlighted in its award application.
