WDAM"s Jay Harrison reported on how Mar-Jac Poultry is moving forward with plans to establish a new transload facility in Perry County, Mississippi. The project has been under development for nearly five years. County leaders expressed enthusiasm about the facility, which will be situated at the Perry County Industrial Park in New Augusta.

The new facility will utilize the county's railroad system to transport goods such as grain, corn, and soybean meal. “They can deliver us 100-110 car trains, which gives us a lot of protection from the capacity and inventory perspective,” said Keith Poss, Mar-Jac’s Transportation Director.

Mar-Jac plans to invest around $25 million into the local economy and create 21 new jobs with annual salaries starting at $70,000. “The average salary would be close to what was named,” Poss added. “There’ll be a lot of CDL drivers to begin with, and later on there’ll be more feedmill-type jobs.”

Future plans for the site include additional construction phases, potentially bringing more opportunities to the county. Mar-Jac expects the transload facility to be completed within the first quarter of 2025.
