India poultry feed prices drop slightly in Haryana
Poultry feed prices in the Indian state of Haryana have dropped as ingredient prices have held steady, according to reports, with 30-kilogram and 50-kilogram bags falling by Rs 10–20 (US$0.18–$0.36) on June 12. Prices of almost all feed ingredients have been unchanged since June 1, said Subhash Sharma, financial head of Sarvottam Poultry Feed Centre Pvt. Ltd.

White Oak Pastures, which raises, processes and packages poultry and livestock, received a Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education Producer Grant to turn the black soldier fly into a value-added tool for making compost while also serving as a protein source for chickens. The fly, native to North America, exhibits characteristics that would be considered beneficial in agriculture, according to White Oak Pastures.

India poultry production drops as summer sets in
India's poultry production has dropped as summer has set in, causing prices to rise as farmers face challenges such as low bird weights and high feed prices, according to reports. Chickens' food intake falls significantly in the summer, causing weight reductions of between 30 percent and 50 percent, said B. Rama Rao, member of the National Egg Coordination Committee.

Modest growth for Brazilian poultry feed production in 2012
Demand for broiler feed in Brazil is expected to rise by 3.1 percent in 2012, while that for layer feed is forecast to be a little under 3 percent higher, according to the Brazilian Feed Industry Association Sindirações. Broiler feed production accounted for 50 percent of total feed output in 2011; however, the first few months of 2012 have witnessed lower prices for birds and an oversupply of poultry meat, weakening demand for feed.

Brazil’s broiler production costs were higher in March. According to the ICPFrango/Embrapa index, which measures the costs of broiler production in the state of Parana, the index rose to 142.01, 4.29 percent higher than in February.

Philippines poultry, corn production up in first quarter 2012
The Philippines saw an increase in poultry and corn production in the first quarter of 2012, both of which contributed to the country's overall 1.08 percent growth in agriculture output over 2011, according to the Bureau of Agriculture Statistics. Poultry had a 14.07 percent share of the country's total agricultural output in the first quarter, a 7.06 percent increase from the same time in 2011 and attributed to a 7.4 percent rise in chicken production.

Oil drilling company Chevron and not-for-profit development organization BRAC-Liberia have signed an agreement to contribute US$375,000 to a poultry hatchery and feed mill project that, when developed, will address the growing demand for eggs on the Liberian market by the public and create job opportunities for poultry and livestock farmers, according to reports. BRAC-Liberia livestock manager, Dr. Mahmud Hossain, said that Liberia has a lack of poultry feed and day-old chicks in its industry, and that developing a hatchery and feed mill in the country is essential.

EU allows 5 percent non-organic protein in organic poultry feed
The EU has published a new regulation that gives producers of monogastric animals, such as poultry, a 5 percent allowance of non-organic protein in their organic feed until the end of 2014. There had been concerns that original proposals for a 100 percent organic diet beginning January 1 would leave producers short of the raw ingredients needed to meet the nutritional requirements their birds would need, according to the UK's National Farmers Union, which lobbied for the regulation change.
