CFO welcomes new member

Hon. Rob Flack is the new Ontario Minister of Agriculture.

Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) is pleased to welcome the Hon. Rob Flack, member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Elgin—Middlesex—London, as the new Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. The organization looks forward to continuing its work with the Hon. Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron—Bruce, in her role as the Ontario Minister of Rural Affairs.

“We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Minister Flack in his new role as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness,” said Murray Opsteen, chair, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “With Minister Flack’s extensive experience in Ontario’s agriculture and agrifood industry, including previously serving as President and CEO of Masterfeeds, chicken farmers are excited to work with Minister Flack to advance the shared priorities of the Ontario chicken supply chain and the broader agriculture and agrifood sector.”

Chicken Farmers of Ontario is eager to collaborate with Minister Flack to further build value and shape the future of agriculture, the Ontario chicken industry and the supply management sector in Ontario. Demand for chicken continues to be strong, and we are thankful for the Ontario government's continued commitment to protecting local food production and supporting rural communities.

The CFO board of directors would also like to thank Minister Thompson for her leadership, dedication and collaboration--particularly through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and Avian Influenza outbreak.

“Over the past three years, chicken farmers have come to know Minister Thompson as a strong advocate and leader for the Ontario chicken industry and its 1,300 family-run farms,” said Murray Opsteen. “We would also like to thank Minister Thompson for her continued support for the supply management system, and for her continued leadership in representing and advocating for the Ontario agriculture industry. We look forward to continuing to work with Minister Thompson to further strengthen rural Ontario.”

CFO recognizes that the recent changes to Premier Ford’s Cabinet demonstrate the Ontario government’s continued commitment to supporting Ontario farmers, the agriculture and agribusiness sector and all of rural Ontario.
