New chair of Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association named

Professor Ursula Lavery will oversee the organization.

The Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association (NIFDA) has appointed Professor Ursula Lavery MBE as its new chair. Lavery, the technical and R&D director at Pilgrim’s Europe (including Moy Park), succeeds George Mullan and will serve a two-year term. Simon Fitzpatrick, group commercial director at Coca-Cola HBC, has been named vice chair.

Ursula Lavery’s Vision

Lavery emphasized the sector's significance, highlighting its £4.9 billion contribution to Northern Ireland's economy and its role in employing 113,000 people. She stressed the importance of sustainability and the need for government investment to remain competitive.

Sustainability and Innovation

Lavery pointed out the industry's commitment to sustainability, with NIFDA members implementing strategies to move towards net zero. She called for government support to foster innovation and level the competitive playing field.
