The Univ of Arkansas ag division announces new employees

Two new instructors will help bolster statewide recruitment efforts.

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences are advancing connections between Arkansas's youth and its thriving poultry industry.

The Department of Poultry Science recently welcomed two new instructors, Andrew Bolton and Joshua Gilstrap, to bolster statewide recruitment efforts.

Andrew Bolton, who joined the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in November 2023, brings a wealth of experience as a former high school ag teacher and Pulaski County extension agent. In his role, Bolton oversees poultry youth activities across the state, managing 4-H programs and similar initiatives. His responsibilities include coordinating poultry events, such as the 4-H Poultry Chain distribution and poultry BBQ contests. Bolton's leadership is expected to significantly impact these programs, ensuring their effectiveness and productivity.

Joshua Gilstrap, who started in January, focuses on student recruitment and retention in the academic department for Bumpers College. With a background as an agricultural education teacher, Gilstrap is well-positioned to engage with Arkansas FFA and agriculture education teachers to conduct poultry judging contests and workshops for students. Additionally, he will lead efforts in undergraduate student recruitment, leveraging his extensive experience with FFA programs and poultry competitions.

Both Bolton and Gilstrap bring a deep commitment to the poultry industry and are eager to contribute to the development of future industry leaders.
