Chicken Farmers of Ontario hold annual meeting

Over 350 farmers and stakeholders from Ontario and across the country attended.

The Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) hosted its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 4th, bringing together 350+ farmers and stakeholders from Ontario and across the country, both in-person and online.

Murray Opsteen, CFO chair, emphasized the collective efforts of the Ontario chicken value chain in achieving industry milestones. Highlights from the AGM include:

  • Hon. Lisa Thompson, Ontario’s minister of agriculture, highlighted the economic impact and government support for innovation in the chicken industry
  • Opsteen and CEO Denise Hockaday discussed CFO's 2023-2025 Strategic Plan and accomplishments in profitability, stakeholder relations, responsible production, and risk management
  • Release of the 2023 Annual Performance Report featuring key achievements, audited financials, and the New Entrant Chicken Farmer Program
  • Guest speaker Jennifer Botterill shared insights on resilience and determination
  • National update from Chicken Farmers of Canada and introduction of the 2023 New Entrant Chicken Farmer Program successful applicants
  • Donation to Feed Ontario through CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program
  • Remarks from Farm Products Council of Canada and Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission
  • Launch of Economic Contribution of the Ontario Chicken Industry study

Denise Hockaday, CFO CEO, expressed excitement for the industry's future, highlighting contributions across the entire value chain. The CFO board of directors elected 2024-2025 positions post-AGM.
