Select Genetics starts work on new hatchery

New NC facility expected to open in spring 2026.

SelectGenetics.com marked a significant milestone with the official groundbreaking of its new 128,000 sq. ft. hatchery in Goldsboro, North Carolina, set to serve East Coast customers upon completion in spring 2026. Joined by local officials, Butterball executives and community members, the ceremony celebrated the company's commitment to the turkey industry.

Jihad Douglas, CEO of Select Genetics, expressed pride in contributing to North Carolina's turkey industry and highlighted the company's ongoing infrastructure investments. The Goldsboro facility adds to hatcheries in Iowa (2011) and Indiana (2018), showcasing the company's dedication to industry growth.

Dwin Dunkin, COO of Select Genetics, emphasized the strategic choice of Goldsboro due to its proximity to the East Coast customer base, existing resources, skilled workforce and community support. The hatchery, designed by L. B. Smith & Associate, Shawn Peltier and Rick Huisinga, features Next Nest technology, utilizing 20 acres with 2.95 acres under roof. Equipped with advanced incubation technology, the facility has the potential to set 61 million eggs annually.

Douglas expressed gratitude to ceremony attendees and extended an invitation for an open house in 2026, reinforcing Select Genetics' commitment to the Goldsboro community.
