Cranswick joins climate pledge

Cranswick is the first UK agri-food business to join the Climate Pledge.

Cranswick has joined The Climate Pledge, a commitment co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism to meet the goals of The Paris Agreement 10 years early, along with world leading companies such as Microsoft and Unilever.

Cranswick is developing a plan to achieve Net Zero by 2040 to deliver against climate change as part of its vision to become the world’s most sustainable meat business. Already committed to taking science-based, high impact actions to tackle climate change, they’re committed to integrating sustainable practices throughout their operations, from farming to sourcing and producing.

They’re focused on decarbonising their owned farms and significantly reducing food loss and overall resource waste in our supply chain and production, all by 2030. Prioritising animal welfare and responsible sourcing from verified zero deforestation areas.

Since 2018, Cranswick have made significant progress, including switching to 100% renewable grid supplied electricity, reducing edible food waste by 61% to 0.4% of total production and removing over 1,200 tonnes of plastic.

As members of The Science Based Targets Initiative, they’re already committed to moving beyond business-as-usual and playing their part in achieving a resilient, zero carbon economy. However, they also understand that tackling climate change will be most effective if organisations work together and collaborate to develop new solutions and share best practice to speed up progress and make a real difference.

Standing with Amazon, Global Optimism and the other signatories of The Climate Pledge the business has committed to being net zero by 2040 – ten years ahead of The Paris Agreement. In addition, as a signatory of The Climate Pledge, Cranswick will:

  • Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.
  • Implement decarbonisation strategies in line with The Paris Agreement through real business change and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
  • Take actions to neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.

Adam Couch, CEO at Cranswick plc. said: “At Cranswick we’re committed to running a responsible business across our operations, and that includes prioritising sustainable practices. We want to be part of the solution to climate change and help inspire positive change across the broader value chain.

“We believe joining The Climate Pledge reinforces our commitment to sustainability and will have a critical role in enabling us to be that positive influence.”
