The latest statistics from China’s Commerce Ministry show that for the first seven months of 2009, China’s maize export value slumped by 56.5% against the same period of 2008, to US$17.1 million.
At the same time, China exported 70,334 tons of maize, a drop of 51.4% against the same period of 2008.
China’s chicken export value increased by 7.2% to US$470 million from January to July 2009, but its export volume decreased slightly to 152,857 tons, a drop of 1.5% against last year, according to the government.
In addition, the official data shows China sold 50,767 tons of pork abroad between January and July 2009, worth US$156 million. Chinese pork exports increased 17.1% in volume and 6.2% in value, respectively.
