Burnbrae Farms and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) are recalling eggs carrying multiple labels over possible Salmonella contamination.
The eggs were produced at one of Burnbrae Farms’ locations in Manitoba farms, and the eggs were distributed in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia, although CFIA stated the distribution could have possible spread into other provinces or territories.
“At Burnbrae Farms, we take immense pride in our eggs and egg products, and we apologize for any concern or inconvenience this recall may have caused,” the company said on its website.
This recall, which was issued on January 18 and has since been updated to include more products, was triggered by test results. However, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these eggs.
The eggs subjected to recall carried brand labels including Compliments, Foremost, Golden Valley Eggs, IGA, No Name and Western Family. Also recalled were certain eggs that did not carry a brand name. The recalled eggs came in a variety of package sizes, ranging from a dozen to boxes of 15 dozen.
A complete list of the recalled eggs can be found on the CFIA website.
Neither the agency nor the company provided information concerning the total number of eggs included in the recall, but Burnbrae did state that the situation was a "rate incident that affects a limited quantity of eggs."
The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace. Consumers who purchased any of the recalled eggs are urged to not consume them.
Burnbrae Farms and No Name in recent years have both been voted Canada's most trusted egg brand by BrandSpark International.
