Ontario PC Leader visits supply managed chicken farm

Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown (MPP Simcoe North) recently toured a chicken farm in Simcoe County. The visit was arranged by Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) to help Brown better understand how a modern day broiler chicken farm operates, to brief him on the economic contributions of the Ontario chicken industry, and to discuss the importance of supply management in providing locally grown, safe, high quality chicken for consumers. Brown was accompanied on the farm tour by Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson.

“CFO is grateful to have the support of all political parties in Ontario, and we were pleased that Mr. Brown, as Ontario’s newest party leader, was able to visit one of our family farms to learn more about the sustainable production of chicken in Ontario,” said Henry Zantingh, Chair of CFO.

“The supply management system has provided economic stability for Ontario’s chicken family farmers for more than 50 years and it continues to be an important driver of economic growth for Ontario’s agricultural community,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO of CFO.

"I was pleased to be able to visit and learn more about the strong Ontario chicken industry. The tour reaffirmed the importance of supply management in Ontario for years to come, while exposing issues with red tape and improper regulation in the broader chicken industry," said Brown.

CFO represents more than 1,200 family farmers across Ontario who collectively raise more than 200 million chickens for domestic and international markets.
