British Columbia has had 104 commercial poultry flocks affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) since the virus first struck the Canadian province’s poultry industry on April 13, 2022.

Four farms had HPAI appear in commercial poultry flocks in the province on November 10 and two more farms became confirmed infected sites on November 12. Of the six new cases, four have been in Chilliwack. Abbotsford and Langley Township each had one farm affected, according to information from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Information concerning flock sizes or the type of poultry involved has not yet been released by CFIA.

To date, Abbotsford has had 50 flocks affected by HPAI, while Chilliwack and Langley Township have had 36 flocks and 12 flocks affected, respectively.

While CFIA has not reported any new cases of HPAI in commercial poultry in other provinces, two new premises in Saskatchewan and one new farm in Alberta have had backyard poultry affected since November 9.
