Vital Farms announced plans to construct a new egg washing and packing facility.

The Indiana-based facility will be known as Egg Central Station (ECS) Seymour and is an extension of the producer’s ECS location in Springfield, Missouri. It is expected to break ground in mid-2025 with full operations beginning in 2027.

According to the producer, ECS Seymour will generate over US$350 million in additional revenue for the company and expand its farm development in the area. Vital said it expects the new facility to support approximately 165 farmers and create over 150 jobs in the local community.

ECS Seymour will feature similar sustainable aspects as ECS Springfield, which uses solar panels to decrease the producer’s electricity usage and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as LED lights to improve energy efficiency by 50% and bioretention tools that help conserve at least 700,000 gallons of water annually.

“We continue to invest in our robust and resilient supply chain to expand our network of family farmers and continue our mission to bring ethical food to the table,” stated Vital Farms President and CEO Russell Diez-Canseco, President and CEO.

Indiana Economic Development Corporation Chief Strategy Officer Ann Lathrop added, “This investment will not only result in increased economic activity – bolstering a statewide ecosystem that generates US$4.6 billion in annual exports – but it will support Hoosier farmers, accelerate rural development and support continued quality of place enhancements in Seymour and the surrounding south central region for years to come.”

Diez-Canseco continued, “We are grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve received from the City of Seymour, Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation and Indiana Economic Development Corporation, and we look forward to deepening our relationship and building an even stronger connection to Southern Indiana and its surrounding communities in the years ahead.”
