Huvepharma loses $100,000 of poultry vaccines to crime

Apparent tampering with air conditioning unit led to temperatures being too high to keep vaccines effective.

About $100,000 worth of poultry vaccines were deemed unusable after vandals tampered with an air conditioning unit at the Huvepharma plant in Lincoln, Nebraska.

According to a report from KLIN, officers from the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) were called to the scene around 11 a.m. on the morning of October 25 to investigate a situation in which it was believed that somebody had tampered with a controller on an exterior air conditioning unit. As a result of the apparent tampering, the temperature in the building rose to levels higher than what was required to keep the vaccines effective.

It is not clear which specific poultry vaccine products were lost.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
