MHP offers to acquire UVESA Group of Spain

The transaction would allow the Ukraine-based company to “contribute to Spain’s agricultural and food sectors, utilizing its significant expertise and advanced production capabilities.”

MHP, Europe’s largest poultry producer, is hoping to grow through the acquisition of Spanish poultry and pork company Uvesa Group.

The Ukraine-based MHP submitted a binding offer to acquire Uvesa, which must be accepted by a majority of Uvesa shareholders, MPH stated in a press release.

The company said the planned acquisition is another strategic step in MHP’s journey, which is consolidating its position as an important player in the global food industry.

In addition to having operations in Ukraine, MHP has operations in southeast Europe, through its Slovenia-based subsidiary, Perutnina Ptuj. Other MHP operations include a cutting facility in the Netherlands, a joint venture in Saudi Arabia, and sales and distribution offices in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (U.K.)

Should the Uvesa transaction materialize, it would gain a presence in a new geographical region.

Uvesa, according to information from the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, controls about 15% of the poultry market in Spain. The vertically integrated company, also operates feed and pork divisions and handles all aspects of the poultry business from breeding to processing. It operates four processing plants, three hatcheries and four feed mills. During the past year, the company produced 95 million broilers.

MHP, also according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, is the largest poultry producer in Europe, producing 704 million broilers annually. It has five processing plants, seven slaughter plants, six hatcheries and six feed mills. In addition to serving the domestic markets where the company operates, MHP exports to more than 80 countries, and export revenue constitutes 58% of total revenue.
