The 2012 Poultry Processor Workshop sponsored by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association focused on Salmonella and Campylobacter, sustainability initiatives and technology. Nova Scotia poultry processor opens with $1 million government investment
Nova Scotia-based Eden Valley Poultry Incorporated will be able to increase its productivity by more than 40 percent through the purchase of leading-edge poultry processing equipment, thanks to a $1 million capital investment from the province's Productivity Investment Program. Equipment purchased with support from the province will increase chicken processing capacity to 12,000 boilers per hour and double the number of turkeys that can be processed to 2,500 per hour.

CTB Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire Meyn Holding B.V., a parent company to Meyn Food Processing Technology B.V., a poultry processing equipment company. Under CTB's ownership, Meyn will be able to continue its strategy to further build its position in the poultry processing industry, said Han Defauwes, Meyn president and CEO.

Miratorg, Meyn-Ishida partner for Russia poultry processing plant
Russian company Miratorg and Meyn-Ishida have agreed to the delivery of a complete 12,000-birds-per-hour Greenfield plant in the Bryansk region, Russia. The new plant is part of a poultry project in which a complete vertical integration is planned.

Val-Co to include biosecurity facilities at all North America locations
Val-Co, a global manufacturer of systems for commercial poultry, pig and egg production, is including the operation of biosecurity facilities at each of its North American locations and the establishment of biosecurity best practices to reduce disease risk. The biosecurity facilities are designed to serve as secure areas where potentially contaminated Val-Co products, parts and packaging, returned from the field, can be properly disinfected prior to further processing.

Albertville Quality Foods purchases poultry further processor
Alabama-based Albertville Quality Foods has purchased poultry further processor Sunrise Foods LLC, adding over $100 million in additional revenues to its business, according to reports. The acquisition significantly expands the profile and capabilities of Albertville, said the company, which will service a marquee list of foodservice, restaurant and retail customers through its operation of three facilities and eight production lines.

Poultry processor Case Farms finalizes purchase of Ohio producer
Ohio-based poultry processor Case Farms has purchased the assets of Ohio-based poultry producer Park Farms, including a processing plant and hatchery. All facilities formerly owned by Park Farms will be restarted the week of March 19, following a shutdown to retool the processing plant for new products to be produced at the facilities.
